Embassy in city hit by paint protest

THE Icelandic Embassy has been covered in yellow paint by activists fighting plans to expand an aluminium plant in the country.

The office on Queen Street was hit at 5.30am this morning by what is thought to be bags of yellow paint.

A message on the outside of the building read "The Whole World is Watching" and "Iceland Bleeds" was also painted on the steps.

A group called Saving Iceland has claimed responsibility for the attack on the Indymedia website.

A anonymous poster on the site said: "The action served as response to recent acts of police brutality against Saving Iceland activists in Reykjavik, who continue to oppose the assault on the Icelandic wilderness by heavy industry."

One office worker, who asked not to be named, said: "It looks like it has been bags of yellow paint that has been thrown at the doors and windows - it is quite a mess."
