Electrician grew drugs in dad's club

AN ELECTRICIAN who was caught growing a cannabis cultivation at a nightclub owned by his father has been given 200 hours of community service.

Scott Kelly, 23, pleaded guilty to charges of growing cannabis at Oscars nightclub on Market Street in Musselburgh, East Lothian.

His friend, Nicholas Livani, 24, also admitted the charge of growing the drug between 22 April and 29 July last year. He was sentenced to 187 hours of community service following the hearing at Edinburgh Sheriff Court yesterday.

The court heard that Kelly, of Dalrymple Loan, Musselburgh, had started growing cannabis to supply himself and his friends in a bid to avoid buying the Class B drug from dealers.

His friend Livani, a Napier University student of Beach Lane, Musselburgh, was enlisted to help, and the court heard he played a "lesser role" in the enterprise.

Sheriff Neil MacKinnon described it as an "ill-advised venture" as he passed sentence.
