Electric car to travel length of Britain

THE first electric production car to travel from John o'Groats to Land's End using publicly accessible charge points was expected to arrive in the Cornish town today.

Zero Carbon World founder Kevin Sharpe and car enthusiast David Peilow were attempting to become the first to complete the journey in their Tesla Roadster this weekend.

Both men, along with other enthusiasts, have been involved in the creation of the ten-point network to encourage drivers to consider going electric. The Tesla Roadster has a range of 200 miles and takes three hours to charge.

Network points have been installed nationwide at a cost of 20,000. The firm hopes to persuade the UK government that charge points can be built for less than was previously thought.

Sharpe, who left John o'Groats yesterday morning, said: "These charging networks empower people to make choices that are pleasurable and consistent with their values of environmental stewardship."
