Elderly woman dies in hospital four weeks after car accident

A PENSIONER who was seriously injured four weeks ago in a car crash in freezing temperatures in Aberdeenshire has died in hospital.

The 73-year-old woman, from the Alvah area, near Banff, was a rear seat passenger in a Land Rover Discovery which overturned on the A947 Aberdeen to Fyvie road near Andrewsford on 18 January.

The woman, who has still to be named, was taken by ambulance to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary and was later transferred to Glasgow's Southern General Hospital for specialist treatment to spinal injuries.

Grampian Police revealed yesterday that she had died from her injuries on Tuesday.

Inspector Ewan Innes, of the Grampian Roads Policing Department, said the force was continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the fatal collision.

No other vehicles were involved in the crash. At the time of the collision the area was experiencing freezing temperatures.

Inspector Innes said: "Our thoughts are with the family of those involved at this time and I would like to express my sympathy to them."
