Elderly win uphill bus stop battle

Elderly residents who faced an uphill struggle after their bus stop was removed have won a battle to have it reinstated.

The shelter in Drum Brae Drive was removed by the council last month without any consultation with the local community, sparking an outcry from residents who had to walk more than 100 yards up a steep hill to get to the next stop.

But local representatives have now managed to persuade council officials to reverse the decision and reinstate the stop.

Local councillor Robert Aldridge, also the city’s environment leader, said: “The department has now agreed to reinstate the bus stop and put up a new shelter.

“A number of residents raised issues with me and I was happy to take it up on their behalf and I am delighted the department has acted. It is a steep hill and there’s a lot of elderly people that use the stop.”
