Elderly and their carers given £380k boost for short breaks

MORE community short breaks are being provided to older people and their carers in Edinburgh.

Nearly 380,000 has been allocated for additional short breaks for older people in the city – funded by the Scottish Government and Edinburgh City Council's Older People's Capacity Plan.

Some of the short breaks people could buy include a care home break closer to friends so visits are possible, a holiday with relatives or a bed and breakfast weekend with support workers or relatives.

Councillor Paul Edie, health and social care leader for the city council, said: "People using the service and their carers have told us they want more choice and flexibility and this additional funding will allow that.

"Short breaks provide a valuable and much-needed service to people across the city as caring for someone is a demanding, and difficult job."
