Edward Hardwicke dies, aged 78

Edward Hardwicke, who played Dr Watson in the Granada television series Sherlock Holmes, has died, his agent confirmed yesterday.

The veteran actor died at a hospice in Sussex. He was 78.

Among the many roles he played was prisoner of war Captain Pat Grant in the 1970s BBC drama Colditz.
