Education bosses praise SQA results

EDUCATION bosses in East Lothian have praised local school pupils for their performance in this year's SQA exams.

Members of the council's education committee were told that pupils continue to perform above the national average.

However, bosses admitted there is still work to be done to improve performance in maths.

Cabinet member with responsibility for education and children's services, Peter MacKenzie, said: "SQA examination performance in East Lothian has once again been encouraging, with pupils continuing to perform at or above both the national and comparator authorities' averages.

"There has been a very slight decline in performance in maths at the end of fourth year, but I am confident that the measures that East Lothian Council has put in place in the last couple of years to support numeracy in primary and early secondary will ensure that there will be an improvement in performance against these measures in the years to come."
