Edinburgh Weather: Wind and rain warning for Lothians

The Lothians will be hit by gale force winds and heavy rain tomorrow as the Capital braces itself for a blustery start to spring, with yellow wind warnings issued by the Met Office across the area.

Gusts of up to 65 mph are set to whip through Edinburgh from the early hours of the morning and into the evening, with the windy conditions slowly dying down from Sunday onwards.

Forecasters warned residents to take care on the roads and be ready to change their travel plans if the weather takes a turn for the worse.

Forth Road Bridge are warned to expect disruption on Saturday with the bridge expected to be closed to all vehicles except cars during the afternoon.

A Met Office spokeswoman said: “We’ve got an area of low pressure moving to the north of the UK tonight and into the early hours of tomorrow morning, bringing with it very strong gusts of wind.

“Inland, this weather could cause a risk and is likely to continue for all of tomorrow.

“There could also be come heavy rain associated with that in Scotland.

“The rain will mainly be overnight tonight and into the early hours of the morning, returning again on Saturday night.

“It’s not going to be the best weekend in the world.”

Barry Colford, Chief Engineer & Bridgemaster of the Forth Road Bridge, said: “The forecast for Saturday indicates winds at a level that will cause significant disruption to bridge traffic.

“It is unlikely that the bridge will close to cars, however we would still advise all bridge users to keep an eye on the weather and plan accordingly.”
