Edinburgh Uni study sheds light on Mars

A DISCOVERY about the make-up of the Mars atmosphere could help inform future missions searching for life.

Scientists explored how the planet’s environment came to contain methane gas, which contains carbon — a substance found in all living things.

The team, from Edinburgh University, the Max Planck Institute in Germany and Utrecht University, said their findings gave valuable insight.

Dr Andrew McLeod, of Edinburgh University, said: “Future studies should take into account the role of sunlight and debris from meteorites.”
