Edinburgh supporters raise £64k for CHAS children's hospice

Children's Hospice Association Scotland's (CHAS) prestigious Rocking Horse Ball returned with a bang last Friday, as over 300 guests raised more than £64,000 for essential building work at Robin House Children's Hospice.

The event, held at Prestonfield House Hotel, was hosted by comedian Fred MacAulay with entertainment from jazz pianist Will Pickvance and Scottish band Corra.

Fundraising games included a Diamond Draw, ‘Roll the Dice’ and silent auction, resulting in one lucky winner going home with an exclusive Hamilton & Inches diamond necklace and another driving home a brand new Belmont Kia car worth £7,000.

Diane Alton, event co-ordinator at CHAS, said: “We were delighted to be able to bring the Rocking Horse Ball back to Edinburgh and extremely overwhelmed by the generosity of our supporters. The money raised will go towards the completion of the renovation project currently underway at Robin House in Balloch.

“The building work will bring the hospice up to date for families using CHAS services and allow children and young people with life-shortening conditions the chance to enjoy greater independence and a wider range of outdoor activities. This wouldn’t be possible without events like this so a huge thank you to everyone that attended and donated prizes.”

Maria McGill, Chief Executive of CHAS, said: “CHAS is the only charity in Scotland that provides hospice services for babies, children and young people with life shortening conditions and we support more than 400 families each year.

“Fundraising is absolutely crucial to us improving the much needed services we provide so we’re delighted to have been in a position to bring the event back to our supporters in the capital and can’t thank them enough for their generosity.”

Plans are already underway for the next Rocking Horse Ball which is being planned for early 2017.
