Edinburgh sisters doing it for themselves .. and charity

TWO Edinburgh sisters are set to put their military fitness training to the test on a 14-day, 1,000-mile charity bike ride from Land's End to John O'Groats.

Sue and Ali McKichan will cover 60 miles a day and climb the equivalent of twice the height of Everest in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support.

Before setting off for Penzance, where they will begin their journey on 23 May, Sue McKichan said: "Ali and I are really excited about the adventure ahead.

"We're delighted that already we've raised almost 3,000 for Macmillan and hopefully we can raise even more."

The sisters decided they needed a focus for their training as members of Military Fitness, the courses led by army trainers on the Meadows and in Inverleith Park.

The adventure-loving pair are used to harsh conditions and physical challenges. In 1992 and 93 they sailed around the world in Sir Chay Blyth's British Steel Challenge.
