Edinburgh sends 12 to Scottish Youth Parliament

SCHOOL pupils Assad Khan, 15, and Sofia Della Sala, 14, are among Edinburgh’s 12 new members of the Scottish Youth Parliament.

Young people all over the Capital between the age of 14 and 25 were able to vote in the elections, which chose two youth representatives for each of the Capital’s six Holyrood constituencies.

The new MSYPs, who will take up their role officially in June, were elected on a range of manifesto pledges including better recreational spaces for youth, and increasing the minimum wage for under-18s.

Councillor Cammy Day, chair of the Edinburgh Youth Issues Forum, said: “It is fantastic to see so many young people engaging in the political process. It just goes to show how switched on and engaged Edinburgh’s young people are.”
