Edinburgh News: Make a date for your day in the dock

The city's Sheriff and Justice of the Peace courts will be opening to the public between 9.30am and 4.30pm on September 25 as part of this year's Doors Open Day.

Visitors will be able to watch a mock trial, take a guided tour of the cells and view an exhibition area.

The Crown Office and Procurator Fiscal Service, Lothian and Borders Camera Partnership, Lothian and Borders Police, the Law Society and Scottish Prison Service will all be on hand to answer any questions.

A FUN day is being held at Ocean Terminal today with all proceeds going to Edinburgh Direct Aid's Pakistan floods appeal.

Visitors will be able to enjoy a ride on a Harley-Davidson or join a sing-along with the Wildfire Choir when they head along to the event, which runs from 1pm to 4pm.

Bar's fiesta fundraiser

A FUNDRAISER is to be held at The Jazz Bar on Chambers Street as part of the Edinburgh Hispanic Festival next Friday.

The fiesta, from 9pm to 3am, and costing 5, will celebrate a vast diversity of Chilean, Caribbean, Spanish and Scottish artists in a "cocktail of hot mixed culture".

Lunan to lead preaching at prayer festival

FORMER Kirk Moderator the Very Rev David Lunan will preach at Mayfield Salisbury Parish Church in Newington tomorrow as part of its Festival of Prayer and Meditation.

He will take part in the 10.45am service while Episcopalian the Rev Sophia Marriage preaches at the 9.30am service on children's spirituality. At 7pm, Orthodox priest Father Raphael Pavouris will talk on icons and prayer.

Gallery bags art event for kids

A FREE family art event is being held at the National Gallery of Modern Art.

Bags of Art, from 2pm to 4pm on Sunday, September 19, will allow families to pick up a bag of activities from the art station to help explore the collection and create their own artworks.

City plots more allotments

MORE allotment plots are to be created in the Capital.

There has been a "dramatic" increase in people seeking their own growing plots over the past ten years. Environment leader Cllr Robert Aldridge said: "People enjoy growing their own vegetables."

Wood you dare miss this furniture exhibition?

The public are invited to see and buy some of the best Scottish wood furniture at a city exhibition this month.

The SFMA is hosting an exhibition at Greyfriars Kirk until September 19, featuring bespoke furniture made by the Scottish Furniture Makers' Association. The exhibitors are from all parts of Scotland and will be displaying amazing craftsmanship of wooden furniture ranging from tables, chairs, drawers and ornate shelving using the highest quality natural hard woods.

SIR Tom Farmer and city leader Jenny Dawe join Prof Nick Read and EICC chief executive Hans Rissmann to help the venue celebrate its 15th anniversary.
