Edinburgh MP urges government to speed up work on city broadband

THE Prime Minister has been urged to help speed up plans to expand the Capital’s broadband service.

Edinburgh West Liberal Democrat MP Mike Crockart made the appeal to David Cameron at Prime Minister’s Questions.

Mr Crockart said that despite £10.7 million from Westminster for broadband investment, the city council’s “lengthy procurement process” meant a 12-month delay to any work.

He said people in places such as Kirkliston and Ratho were “immensely frustrated”. Mr Cameron said he was “happy to look at the situation”.

Councillor Alasdair Rankin said the Super Connected Cities programme would happen by the target date, 2015.
