Edinburgh football fan banned over racial abuse

An Edinburgh football fan has been banned from attending matches for two years and fined for racist abuse at a Hibs game.

Ian McCormack, 44, was today fined £560 and made subject of a Football Banning Order for two years after having been found guilty of making racially offensive comments.

McCormack was observed making the comments by police on duty at the Hibs versus Partick Thistle at Firhill Stadium on 15 March 2014, and was apprehended by officers in the stand.

Speaking following sentencing Stephen Ferguson, Football Liaison Prosecutor for the West of Scotland, said: “McCormack chose to shout racially offensive comments in a stand busy with families and young people.

“Police and prosecutors take such offences very seriously and will continue to do all we can to bring those who persist in committing them to justice.”
