FIRST it was the foray into Valentine’s poetry which included the admission #polisnotpoets.

Now it seems police in Edinburgh are continuing down the rocky road of banter by EdinburghPolice/status/542274697074057216">tweeting an image of a cannabis plant with the accompanying caption: “Any1 lost 33k of cannabis in the Edinburgh area? Don’t panic, we found it. Please come to the station to collect’. [sic]

The tweet, posted by the @EdinburghPolice account, has been retweeted over 2,000 times and ‘favourited’ nearly 1400 times.

In February, @EdinCityPolice posted: “Roses are red Violets are blue If you commit crime on Valentines day We’ll put you in a grey cell #polisnotpoets.”

That particular tweet prompted over 6,100 retweets and 2,800 ‘favourites’.

Police on Twitter generally have a good reputation for tongue-in-cheek tweets.

@solihullpolice engaged in a bit of popular culture in April 2013, tweeting: “Arrested a 28yr old man today for stealing a Twilight Saga DVD box set, store owner suggested making him watch it as punishment.”

And in December 2012, @SurreyPolice tweeted in the style of Nineties rapper Vanilla Ice, in order to warn about slippery roads: “#IceIceSurrey #IceIceSurrey Alright stop, Collaborate and listen, Ice is back and these roads are glistening.”

Never change, officers.
