The star announced on his Twitter feed that he will be headlining a one-off show at the Assembly Hall on Monday night with support from fellow funnymen, German Michael Mittermeier and South African Trevor Noah.
Izzard, who last appeared at the Fringe in 1993, told the Evening News: “I am very pleased to be doing my first stand-up show at the Edinburgh Fringe in 19 years.
“As an ex-street performer who used to perform on The Mound it is good to be back.”
William Burden-Coutts, who runs Assembly, added: “I think it’s amazing to have him doing a show and supporting two new performers at the Festival.
“The last time I saw him he had just done the Hollywood Bowl.”
