Ed Miliband tells Nick Clegg to steer clear of AV poll

NICK Clegg has been told to lie low and stay away from the alternative vote referendum if he wants voters to back reform of the electoral system.

The warning came from Labour leader Ed Miliband, who said he would not share a platform with the Lib Dem deputy prime minister even though both agree on electoral reform.

Mr Miliband fears the AV referendum will become a referendum on Mr Clegg, and urged voters to use the Scottish, Welsh and English council elections being held on the same day for that. "I am afraid he has become the exemplar of the old politics - breaking your promises," he added.
