Police have launched an investigation into the shooting incident and appealed for information.

Detective Inspector David Scott said: “Firstly I would like to reassure people that our inquiries carried out so far lead us to believe this was a targeted attack.

“A lot of police activity has been ongoing in the area today, with specialist officers conducting a detailed examination of the scene.

“Detectives are also in the process of gathering CCTV images from in and around the area and house to house enquiries are ongoing in an effort to gather further information. I am appealing to anyone with information to contact us as a matter of urgency.”

The area was sealed off today as police carried out investigations, and road closures were in place.

Chief Inspector Mark Leonard said: “I know people will be shocked when they hear of this incident but I would like to reassure them that I have arranged for additional officers to be in the area.
