Dundee is one of four cities, together with Hull, Leicester and Swansea, shortlisted for the prestigious title and the winning UK City of Culture will be announced in November .
We Dundee, the people-led campaign that helped Dundee win a place on the UK City of Culture 2017 shortlist, today announced it had launched a new look website to help boost the city’s chances in the next phase of the competition.
Supporters of Dundee’s City of Culture campaign are being encouraged to get involved in shaping the next stage of the bid by visiting wedundee.com and answering the question “What would you love to see in Dundee in 2017?”
A spokeswoman for the campaign group said: “The contributions will play a key part in shaping the city’s cultural programme for the bid’s next phase, which has a 30 September deadline. Dundee will make a final presentation to the competition judges in mid-November and the winning city will be announced later that month.
“The We Dundee website launched earlier this year exceeded all targets by generating over 2,300 supporters and 20,000 site visits, including hits from Canada, United States, Spain and Australia. “
She continued: “The four aspects of the city that website supporters felt were its strongest attributes have inspired the themes for the 2017 planned programme and are each intended to have festivals during the year. They include a celebration of the river involving the communities around the Tay Estuary, a celebration of the environment, a celebration of our people – a homecoming for those with their roots in Dundee or connections to the city - and a celebration of the light – appreciating the quality of light and shining a light on the future.”
