Dundee police release sex attacker description

DETECTIVES investigating the sex attack of a teenage girl in Dundee have released the description of a man who boarded a bus in the the city shortly after the assault.

The 16 year-old victim of the attack was left “extremely distressed” but uninjured following the assault on Wednesday, 20 February, in a small wooded area on South Road, near its junction with Arran Drive, in the city’s Charleston area.

Her assailant, said to be a man in his 20s and smelling dirty, then ran off up a path towards Menzieshill.

A spokeswoman for Tayside Police said today: “The incident happened at about 11.20pm on 20 February.

“Officers are keen to trace a man, who boarded a number 28 bus from South Road, near to Buttars Loan just after 11.20pm. The bus travelled to the city centre area of Dundee, where the man exited the bus in Albert Street about 11.30pm.

“He walked towards the Panmure Street and Murraygate area of the city centre.”

She continued: “The man is described as wearing a dark-coloured hooded jacket with the hood up, a dark-coloured ‘tammy’ style hat under the hood, a pair of dark-coloured jeans and black-coloured shoes. We would encourage the man from the bus to come forward in order that he can be eliminated from our enquiries or anyone who knows the identity of the man to contact us.”

The spokeswoman added: “A review of CCTV coverage is continuing and officers have visited in excess of 180 houses during door to door enquiries and have taken approximately 50 witness statements. Tayside Police would appeal to anyone who was onboard the bus or anyone who saw the man either in South Road or in the city centre area at the relevant times to contact the force.”
