Dundee police hunt cyclist over racism, vandalism

DETECTIVES in Tayside are hunting a teenage BMX cyclist brandishing a metal bar who racially abused a member of staff at a Dundee petrol station minutes before a double vandal attack.

The teenager abused the man shortly before a nearby bus shelter was smashed and a lorry damaged in a vandalism attack.

A spokesman for the Tayside Division of Police Scotland said the teenage boy had verbally abused and threatened two men at the Jet Service Station in Forfar Road, Dundee, yesterday afternoon.

Moments later the windows of a nearby bus shelter were smashed and a lorry damaged, and the boy was seen riding his BMX across the flyover of the A90 Dundee to Aberdeen Road towards Fintry.

The spokesman explained: “A delivery driver pulled his lorry into the petrol station to make delivery at about 1.10pm and saw a teenager – aged about 16 – ride by on his BMX.

“He was 5ft 4ins tall, slim with brown shoulder length hair. At the time he wore a light blue hooded pullover top, dark grey joggers and dark-coloured trainers. His bike was a dark-coloured BMX which has a plastic bag or cover on the seat.”

The spokesman continued: “Moments later the delivery driver saw the teenager walk across the forecourt of the garage, which sits on the northbound carriageway, and sit on a wall.

“Both the driver and a member of staff spoke with the youth and he swore at the driver, racially abused the member of staff and then pulled what appeared to be a metal bar from his sleeve and threatened them before making off.

“Moments later there was the sound of glass shattering nearby and a bang. Damage to a nearby bus shelter and the driver’s lorry was discovered soon after.”

He added: “Tayside Division would appeal to anyone who was in the area at the time of this incident and who may have information that could assist enquiries to contact them on 101 or speak to any officer.”
