Dundee man arrested over ‘historical incidents’

MYSTERY today surrounded the arrest of a man in Dundee in relation to what Tayside Police would only describe as “an ongoing investigation into incidents of a historical nature” in the city.

A force spokesman said: “Tayside Police can confirm that a 22 year-old local man was detained at about 7.20 this morning in relation to an ongoing investigation into incidents of a historical nature in Dundee. The man is currently assisting detective officers with their enquiries and it is anticipated that a report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal in due course.”

Detective Chief Inspector Colin Gall, who is leading the investigation said: “We recognise and fully appreciate the public’s interest in this investigation and thank them for their patience. We hope that any developments in the investigation will provide them with further reassurance.”

The Scotsman understand that the investigation centres on allegations of a sexual nature and follows a four week investigation centred on a house in the Douglas area of Dundee. Detectives, exercising a search warrant, are understood to have removed a number of items of forensic interest to the force in what has been described as “an extremely sensitive enquiry.”

Four weeks ago a flat in Balunie Avenue in the Douglas area of Dundee was the focus of intense police activity.

A blue forensic tent was erected in a garden at the rear of the property and items including mattresses and floorboards were seen by residents being removed from the flat and loaded into a police van.

One resident said: “They were emptying loads of stuff from the flat and taking it away in plastic bags. A mattress and floorboards were removed and there were police carrying boxes out too. Everything was put into a big red van.”
