A SCOTTISH university is spearheading Europe-wide research to prevent birth defects such as cleft lip.

Professor Peter Mossey, of the University of Dundee dental school, has received a European Science Foundation grant of about 400,000. It will fund five years of conferences and meetings between experts across Europe and launches in Strasbourg on 9 June.
