The Tayside Division of Police Scotland has launched an investigation into the “potentially serious” incident in which the young girl was injured on Tuesday night as she was travelling on a bus on Berwick Drive, Dundee.
She was struck shortly before 8pm as the bus was being driven along Berwick Drive, close to its junction at the Laurels.
A force spokesman “Around 7.55pm, two boys were seen to throw stones at the bus. The boys are described as being 12 to 13 years old, both wearing wearing green-coloured hooded tops and light-coloured tracksuit bottoms.
“The girl suffered a minor injury and was understandably distressed by the incident. She attended as a precaution at Ninewells Hospital where she required no further treatment.”
He added: “The implications of throwing any type of missile at a moving vehicle are very serious indeed, not least when it is public transport carrying passengers. Those who get involved in this reckless behaviour may view it as a bit of harmless fun, but they should consider the potential consequences of their actions. Their actions threaten lives.
