Drunken lorry driver banned

A LORRY driver who was arrested for a drink-driving offence on the city bypass has been banned from getting behind the wheel for five years.

Henryk Jarych, from Poland, received a 500 fine along with the disqualification at Edinburgh Sheriff Court yesterday after admitting to being more than twice over the legal limit.

The 57-year-old was stopped in his Mercedes Actros lorry near Straiton at around 8.45am on Monday.

Inspector Fraser Jervis of the road policing unit said: "Mr Jarych's guilty plea indicates his acceptance that his actions were not only extremely foolish, but could have had devastating consequences. This should serve as a timely reminder to all motorists that failure to adhere to the laws of the road will result in a severe penalty."
