Drunk driver sent to prison

A DRINK-driver was jailed yesterday for what a sheriff called "appalling and dangerous behaviour" on the road.

Douglas Dowling, 54, caused other drivers to brake violently and swerve out of his path to avoid colliding with him.

During a ten-mile journey from Polkemmet Country Park, Whitburn, to his home in Uphall, West Lothian, he drove into the path of oncoming traffic and repeatedly bounced off the kerb.

One motorist was so concerned at Dowling's bad driving that he followed in his car as his passenger called the police.

Dowling, of Uphall, admitted driving dangerously on October 5 last year and was sentenced to 108 days in prison.
