Drug user smashed six windows

A DRUG user caused almost £1,000 of damage when he went on a window smashing spree with a hammer, a court heard.

Robert Crookston vandalised six windows in his neighbours' homes while he was high on drugs.

He appeared for sentence at Livingston Sheriff Court yesterday after earlier pleading guilty to breach of the peace and carrying an offensive weapon in a public place.

His lawyer claimed that Crookston, 30, remembered nothing of the incident on July 9.

In fact, the accused had to be taken to hospital because he was so drugged up there were concerns over his condition.

Crookston, of Griffith Drive, Whitburn was sentenced to carry out 160 hours of unpaid community service work at 10 per week.

He was also ordered to pay 900 compensation for the damaged windows.

Stuart Peebles, defending, told the court: "For some reason he became obsessed with his neighbours.

"Up until then he'd no ill feelings whatsoever towards them."
