Drug factory found after police raid

A CANNABIS factory with plants worth around £77,000 was found during a police raid.

Officers went to the property in Holly Bank in Mayfield, Midlothian, at around 10am on Monday, where a large number of plants was recovered.

Various items of growing apparatus were also seized and inquiries are now under way to trace those responsible for the cultivation.

A police spokesman said: "We continue to act on intelligence from the public to identify then shut down drug production facilities throughout the force area.

"Anyone with information concerning drug-related criminal activity in their local area is urged to contact police."

Gangsters from China, Malaysia and Vietnam are said to be behind most cannabis farm operations, with Lothians police discovering around three new cultivations each week.
