Drug addict mother with 90 convictions is jailed again for shoplifting

A MOTHER granted bail twice despite 90 previous convictions has been jailed for four months after being caught shoplifting again.

Notorious heroin addict Joanne Mayor was caught stealing less than a month after being freed halfway through her last jail term for an identical crime.

Sheriff Robert McCreadie told Mayor yesterday: "It is quite clear a custodial disposal is the only appropriate one for somebody with such a long record. This record is extraordinary for a woman of 27. Miss Mayor is long familiar to us. She has a long and deplorable record."

He jailed her at Perth Sheriff Court for four months after hearing she had been freed on Christmas Eve, halfway through a two-month sentence.

Mayor, of Sauchie Terrace, Crieff, admitted shoplifting cosmetics from Tesco in Crieff Road, Perth, on 18 January – while she was subject to two bail orders.

Mayor is already awaiting sentence for two more cases and she had previously had those put off until February pending the preparation of reports. The 27-year-old has nearly 90 convictions, for around 170 crimes, but despite the "extraordinary" record she was still granted bail again last month.
