Drop in city break-ins

THE number of housebreakings fell in Edinburgh during April and May in spite of a 13 per cent increase in the volume of city break-ins last year.

A total of 180 housebreakings were recorded in the Capital during the two-month period, compared with 235 during April and May last year.

The 23 per cent drop bucks the previous trend which saw a rising number of break-ins committed between last April and March.

The increase came despite a police push to reduce the problem and an overall drop in crime in 2008-9 of 8.3 per cent.
