Drivers have much to learn

DRIVERS are dicing with disqualification over ignorance of their responsibilities when supervising learners.

Some drivers are breaking the law by drinking, texting or even falling asleep while on practice runs with learners, an AA/Populus poll shows.

As many as 23 per cent of the near-19,000 surveyed did not know they would be breaking the law by using a mobile phone while supervising a learner.

And 13 per cent were unaware of the need to wear glasses if they use them when driving themselves, while 9 per cent did not realise that falling asleep in the passenger seat would risk a run-in with the law.
