Driver killed in M8 crash is named

A LORRY driver who died following an early morning crash on Scotland's busiest motorway has been named by police.

Hugh McKenna, 68, was driving east on the M8 near Harthill on Tuesday when the vehicle crossed the central reservation, colliding with a Nissan Micra travelling west.

Police are investigating the possibility that Mr McKenna may have fallen ill at the wheel.

Mr McKenna, from Bellshill in North Lanarkshire, died at the scene.

The 37-year-old woman driving the Nissan was taken to Monklands District General Hospital with minor injuries.

Part of the M8 was closed in both directions for several hours following the crash.
