Driver keeps licence after crashing through garden fence

A SUPERMARKET baker who lost control of his car and crashed it through a fence into a garden has been allowed to keep his licence.

Jamie Swinton, 24, was out with friends when he smashed into a tree after losing control on a country road.S winton pleaded with a sheriff not to ban him as he begins work at 4am and a road ban would result in an “inherent risk” of him losing his job, despite having no insurance and already having three points on his licence. The Asda baker, from Longniddry in East Lothian, pleaded guilty to losing control of the car, colliding with a tree and a garden fence, and of having no insurance when he appeared at Haddington Sheriff Court this week.

Depute fiscal Alison Innes told the court that Swinton, a father-of-one, caused damage worth £240 on November 3 last year. Sheriff Peter Braid handed Swinton eight penalty points and told him to pay fines totalling £700.
