Drive to stop diets going up in smoke

WEIGHT-loss experts have been brought in to help smokers in the Lothians quit in 2011.

Eating more and gaining weight is common in people who are attempting to give up, and is cited by many as a reason for relapsing into the habit.

Now the Scottish Government has brought in Scottish Slimmers for a marketing campaign aimed at addressing that very issue.

The strategy will see stop-smoking classes available at some slimming classes and a publicity initiative to make people more aware of what support is out there.

Alexandra Howie, Scottish Slimmers' marketing director, said: "New Year is the ideal time to take a fresh look at your lifestyle and identify simple ways to improve your health, such as giving up smoking or losing weight.

"However, we know from experience that many people try to go it alone and often find it difficult to stay motivated and focused.

"We're confident that, with the combined support, those looking to makeover their lives in the new year will receive the advice they are looking for."
