Drive launched to break barriers to sports access

A SPECIAL event aimed at improving residents' access to sport and culture has been organised by the council.

Sporting and cultural organisations across the Capital are being asked to attend the event – called Access to Sport and Culture: Edinburgh Partnership in Conference – which is being held at the Playfair Library this Wednesday.

The event aims to see as many groups as possible sign up to the "Pledge" – a commitment designed to address barriers hindering people from participating in sport and culture.

Councillor Deidre Brock, culture and leisure convener, said: "The Pledge is an excellent way of demonstrating our shared commitment to making sport and culture as accessible as possible for all Edinburgh residents.

"We've already had very positive feedback, with a number of organisations signing up and I look forward to seeing even more coming on board."
