Drink-driving mother had teenage son as passenger

A MOTHER caught nearly three times over the alcohol limit with her teenage son as a passenger was among eight motorists caught in the Lothian and Borders force area during the first week of a nationwide blitz against drink driving.

Police were called following a collision on the A801 at Westfield, West Lothian, and the 47-year-old provided a positive breath sample. Her 15-year-old son was a passenger.

In another incident, a 36-year-old man was stopped in Uphall, West Lothian, following an anonymous tip-off. He provided a breath sample of more than three times the limit.

Chief Superintendent Derek Robertson said: “It remains concerning that 111 drivers across Scotland have still opted to get behind the wheel when they are clearly incapable of driving safely.

“They pose a danger to other innocent road users and that is unacceptable.”
