Double shooting immunity plea

A CIA employee accused of murdering two Pakistanis appeared in court yesterday.

Raymond Allen Davis, 36, refused to sign a charge sheet and claimed diplomatic immunity, a claim which the US has supported, saying he is listed as an embassy staff member.

It is alleged the American shot two Pakistan men. He claims he acted in self-defence when they tried to rob him in the city of Lahore in January.

The question of whether Davis has immunity is being considered by the Lahore High Court.

Prosecutor Abdus Samad said Davis would be formally charged at the next hearing, scheduled for Thursday.
