Doorman lost eye in stiletto heel attack

A DOORMAN has been left blinded for life after his eye was stamped out by a woman's stiletto heel, a court heard yesterday.

Emily Marsden, 37, had been asked to leave Shanghai nightclub at Edinburgh's George Street and head doorman Graham Roach, 28, went to assist his colleague.

However Mr Roach was knocked to the ground and as he lay there Marsden stamped on his face. The heel went into his eye socket, splitting it open.

Mr Roach lay on the street with blood pouring from his wound before medics rushed him to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary, where he endured a four-hour operation. However the damage was too severe and his eye could not be saved.

Edinburgh Sheriff Court heard that when Marsden was later taken to St Leonard's Police Station and charged with assault she said: "I'm sorry".

Yesterday, Marsden, of Cables Wynd House, Edinburgh, admitted carrying out the assault on Mr Roach in Edinburgh's George Street on 25 July last year.

Anthony Walker, 49, of the same address, pled guilty to breaching the peace.

Sheriff Neil MacKinnon deferred sentence for background reports until next month when pleas in mitigation will also be heard.
