Dolly the Sheep creator up for top award

THE man who created Dolly the Sheep is in the running for a prestigious award.

Professor Sir Ian Wilmut, director of the Scottish Centre for Regenerative Medicine (SCRM) at Edinburgh University, is on the shortlist for this year's Scottish Enterprise Life Sciences Awards which will be announced next month.

Professor Wilmut, who led the team behind Dolly, the first mammal to be cloned back in 1997, has been nominated in the category of outstanding contribution to the growth of Scottish life sciences.

Edinburgh-based Solid Form Solutions Ltd has been nominated as best new life sciences company.

The winners will be announced at a dinner for more than 750 people at the Edinburgh International Conference Centre on February 3.
