Dog attack woman charged

A WOMAN was charged by police after a dog bit a two-year-old girl on the face, it has been confirmed.

Gemma Horne was playing in the garden of a house when a Staffordshire bull terrier attacked her last Saturday in North Berwick, East Lothian.

She was taken to the Royal Hospital for Sick Children in Edinburgh, kept in overnight for observation and released the following day.

A spokeswoman for Lothian and Borders Police said: "A 55-year-old woman has been charged in connection with an incident that happened in North Berwick on Saturday, September 4, where a dog injured a child.

"The woman will appear at Haddington Sheriff Court at a later date."

The Staffordshire bull terrier is in the care of its owner.

It was the third time a child was attacked by a dog in Scotland in seven days.
