Doctors hail results of patient poll

A SURVEY which shows Lothians patients are overwhelmingly happy with their GP is a tribute to their hard work, a leading health organisation has said.

The Scottish Government published a report which revealed in detail patients' opinions on all aspects of care at their local doctor's surgery.

More than 90 per cent of those asked said their experience was either good or excellent, and most problems related to administrative issues like booking appointments.

The British Medical Association in Edinburgh said it was pleased with the results, but vowed to improve things for the one in ten who weren't happy.

Dr Andrew Buist, who is deputy chairman of the organisation's GP committee, said: "These results are testimony to the hard work of GPs and their practice teams across Scotland.

"General practice is very much the cornerstone of the NHS in Scotland."
