Docks group call rejected

OPPOSITION councillors have failed in a bid to get the city council to agree to include local representatives on a group being set up to oversee an £84 million infrastructure project at Leith docks.

The council intends to borrow the money against future business rates to fund four infrastructure schemes, but council leader Jenny Dawe has admitted that the money could be used in the future to help fund the tram project.

The policy and strategy committee agreed yesterday to approve the creation of TIF Executive Group, but rejected a call by Labour councillor Gordon Munro for the group to include the chairs of both the Leith and Forth neighbourhood partnerships.

Cllr Munro said: "It is important that the community voice is heard in this group."
