Disabled to get more help to find work

MORE disabled people are to be helped into work and to lead independent lives, the Scottish Government has said.

Those disabled because of service in the armed forces will be among those assisted by the Supported Employment Framework.

Launching the scheme in Edinburgh, skills and lifelong learning minister Keith Brown said Holyrood wanted to improve upon statistics showing more than half of disabled people in Scotland don't work.

"Far too many people with much to contribute to society and Scotland's future are being excluded from the workforce," he said. "Every level of government is committed to creating a more successful country and the only way we can do that is by ensuring that we provide opportunities for all of Scotland to flourish.

"This framework sets out our shared determination for supporting disabled people, who want to work, into employment."
