Disabled jobs secure after takeover

THE FUTURE looks safe for 30 disabled workers at St Jude's Laundry after it was announced the business has been taken on by a major organisation.

Forth Sector, the company behind an expansion plan to help those finding it difficult to get work in Craigmillar, has agreed to run St Judes from April 4.

The laundry, which holds a royal warrant for its services to Holyroodhouse, could move to Forth Sector's own Craigmillar-based laundry in future.

It is currently owned by disability organisation Capability Scotland, which said it was keen to make sure the future and number of jobs at the laundry were safe.

Richard Hamer, director of external affairs for Capability, said: "The laundry is not moving in the foreseeable future, it will continue to work as it is, where it is ... it is a viable going concern."
