Dining car axe pays off
RAIL bosses have recorded a "major surge" in the number of passengers travelling first class after they decided to axe dining cars.
East Coast Main Line said the number of first-class journeys had risen by 24 per cent since the introduction of a complimentary food service for first class travellers in May.
The previous catering operation was costing the government-owned train firm 20 million a year.
