Developers exhibit plans to turn school into shop

DEVELOPERS are holding a public exhibition to showcase plans to turn a former school into a supermarket.

Macdonald Estates plans to convert the former Curriehill Primary school site in Lanark Road West after it was sold by the council for 4 million when pupils moved to the new Currie Primary at Riccarton in 2007.

The developer said it wanted to see a "comprehensive redevelopment" of the site, creating 200 jobs in the process.

The company's Alastair Ness said: "There are a number of sites throughout the city which are likely to remain undeveloped for a substantial time.

"The Curriehill site, we believe, does not fall into that category and We are keen to explain to local residents how we feel the Curriehill site can be best developed and to seek their views regarding our proposals."

The public exhibitions take place at Currie Library on Wednesday between 2pm-8pm and on Thursday between 12pm-5pm.
