Dementia patients fear

AROUND 1000 patients in Scottish hospitals at any one time are likely to have dementia without it being diagnosed, doctors have said.

Statistics show that dementia is present in around a quarter of all inpatients and in around 40 per cent of those over 70, according to the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh.

Dementia professor Emma Reynish said: “It is vital dementia is recognised early to ensure patients and carers receive appropriate treatment.”
