Decision time for Blind School expansion plans

COUNCILLORS are to make a final decision on whether to allow a multi-million-pound expansion of the Royal Blind School to go ahead.

Under ambitious proposals, the existing primary school and link to the main school would be demolished and replaced by a new residential block at the Craigmillar Park site.

It would mean that pupils will be able to live in a different building to where they are taught for the first time.

Council officials recommended that the proposals get the go-ahead but councillors last month decided to delay a decision in order to allow them to carry out a site visit.

They are due to meet again tomorrow at a meeting of the development management sub-committee of the planning committee to reach a final decision.
